PSU 6: Business First Year Seminar

PSU 6 is a one-credit first-year seminar required for students in the Smeal College of Business. The course is designed to support Smeal pre-major (BA_PMAJ) students in their transition to Penn State, specifically in the exploration of academic, professional, and personal goals while building a foundation for success within the business community.

Through interactive discussions, activities, guest speakers, and collaborative projects, students develop the knowledge and skills needed to thrive at Penn State and prepare for success in their future careers.

What Students Will Learn

Throughout the semester, students will:

• Explore honor, integrity, and ethical decision-making through real-world business case studies

• Develop strategies for time management, academic success, and personal well-being

• Learn about Smeal majors, entrance-to-major requirements, and alternative business-related academic pathways

• Explore career interests, professional development resources, and resume-building strategies

• Strengthen leadership skills and understand the characteristics of effective leaders

• Examine the role of diversity, global perspectives, belonging, and inclusion in business and society

• Gain exposure to emerging topics, including artificial intelligence and its impact on business

PSU 6 is a required first-year seminar for students enrolled in the Smeal College of Business pre-major (BA_PMAJ) program. Only students enrolled in the Smeal College of Business may take PSU 6.
