Penn State Smeal Student Earns Prestigious AWESOME Scholarship

The scholarship, presented by AWESOME (Achieving Women’s Excellence in Supply Chain Operations, Management, and Education), includes a $5,000 financial award and recognizes 20 outstanding female students across the nation who are pursuing full-time degrees in supply chain management. In addition to the scholarship, recipients gain access to a powerful professional network and invitations to the 2025 AWESOME Symposium and the 2025 CSCMP EDGE Conference.

"I'm incredibly honored to receive the AWESOME Excellence in Education Scholarship! This recognition is both humbling and motivating as I continue learning how to lead with purpose and impact,” said Kurup. “Joining the AWESOME network is truly exciting—I’m grateful for the chance to learn from accomplished women and grow within such an empowering community. I'm especially thankful to Professor Purdum for her nomination and continued support throughout this journey."

Since its launch in 2013, the AWESOME Excellence in Education Scholarship has aimed to support women in the supply chain field. Initially limited to five recipients per year, the program expanded in 2021 to honor 20 scholars annually with both a financial award and exclusive professional development opportunities.

As a scholarship recipient, Kurup joins the growing network of AWESOME Scholars. The program's Scholar CONNECT! initiative enables awardees to engage with peers and alumni through the AWESOME Scholar Forum, promoting long-term mentoring and career development.

“Ananya’s academic performance ranks among the highest of all supply chain scholars at Penn State.” said Sue Purdum, teaching professor in supply chain management and faculty nominator. “She comports herself with poise and professionalism, and her selection for this national scholarship is a testament to her work ethic and passion for the field of supply chain. She is a wonderful representation of Penn State and the Smeal College of Business.”
