March 2025 SCIS & BAIS Student of the Month: Sarah Langer
The Center for Supply Chain Research (CSCR) is proud to highlight high-achieving students in Supply Chain and Information Systems (SCIS) and Business Analytics & Information Systems (BAIS) who are making an impact in their programs with a SCIS & BAIS Student of the Month award. These students are nominated by faculty leaders and selected by a panel of SCIS and BAIS faculty representatives and the CSCR Executive Director, Donna Palumbo.
Our first feature is Sarah Langer. She is a 4th-year honors student, double majoring in Management Information Systems (BAIS) and Economics from Bucks County, PA. Nominated by BAIS faculty member Akhil Kumar, Sarah was chosen as March's Student of the Month for her diligence, hard work, and dedication to the Penn State Smeal College of Business through various leadership roles. What excites you about a career in management information systems?
I am super excited for my career in BAIS as I get the opportunity to witness an ever-changing landscape as new innovations emerge, like artificial intelligence. Being at the intersection of business and technology, there is an incredible breadth of careers for anyone highly adaptable.
What internship experience have you gained while at Penn State?
I previously interned for PwC as an intern in their (previously known as) Cloud Innovation and Engineering group. Here, we focused on hybrid cloud storage and disaster recovery. I also interned at Wealth Protection Strategies, where I gained valuable experience in insurance, investments, and CRM systems.
What is your favorite part about being an BAIS student at Smeal?
I love the close community that BAIS has created for me in my classes. Having the opportunity to connect everyday with the same students and faculty makes me feel extremely welcome in the business building. I also appreciate how unique BAIS is, and how we gain a deeper understanding of systems used across all of the Smeal disciplines.
What organizations are you involved in within Smeal and at Penn State?
As a graduating senior and current TA, I'm very grateful to have invested my time in the Management Information Systems Association and Smeal Student Mentors. Previously serving as President of MISA as well as Director of Technology for SSM has been extremely emotionally rewarding and sharpened my digital acumen along the way.
How has Smeal and the SCIS/BAIS Department prepared you to make an impact outside the classroom?
Through Smeal and SCIS, I have found an amazing network of students, alumni, and faculty. My academic experiences will serve as a foundation for me as a cloud consultant after graduation, as well as motivation for me to constantly seek out and uplift the Penn State network.
What is your favorite Penn State memory?
One of my favorite memories from Penn State is walking in the homecoming parade for the first time with my friends. The atmosphere was electric, and I got to drive a golf cart.
What is your favorite creamery ice cream flavor?
My favorite flavor is Peachy Paterno.
