The Alan M. Cabelly Award for Excellence in Human Resource Management

Overview of Award & Application Process

Through the generous support of Dr. Alan Cabelly, a Penn State alumnus and Professor Emeritus at Portland State University, the Department of Management & Organization will present the The Alan M. Cabelly Award for Excellence in Human Resource Management. The Cabelly Award provides one $2,500 gift to reward a graduating senior who has been successful in their human capital studies and who has also contributed to the campus and community. Dr. Cabelly's vision is that this gift will help a graduating senior as they make the transition from student to human resources professional. 

Awards are granted each spring semester, based upon the following criteria:

• Required:

  • Semester 8 (senior)

  • Major in management

  • Minimum GPA of 3.25

• Preferred:

  • Involvement in Management & Organization Student Organizations

  • Involvement in Smeal Student Organizations

  • Leadership position(s) in M&O or Smeal Student Organizations

  • Evidence of academic achievement through faculty-directed research or independent study groups+

  • Community service/volunteering

Human capital students who are graduating in the spring are eligible to apply for this competitive award and are encouraged to participate in the self-nomination process.
